Epoxy Flooring
FAQ

20 questions Nashville homeowners and businesses ask most - answered straight.

Cost & Quotes

How much does epoxy flooring cost in Nashville?
A standard two-car garage runs $1,800–$3,500 depending on square footage, slab condition, and coating system. Commercial floors and specialty coatings like metallic epoxy or urethane cement run higher. We provide free on-site quotes with written pricing - no phone estimates, because slab condition matters too much to price blind.
What's included in a free quote?
We assess your slab (moisture test, crack mapping, contamination check), measure the space, discuss your use case and finish preferences, and leave you a written line-item quote. No sales pressure, no expiring offers. Most assessments take 30–45 minutes.
Do you charge a travel fee for Brentwood, Franklin, or other suburbs?
No. Our standard service area covers the full Nashville metro - Brentwood, Franklin, Murfreesboro, Hendersonville, and Smyrna are all within our normal range with no travel surcharge.
Is epoxy flooring worth the cost compared to tile or paint?
Compared to floor paint, yes - epoxy is 10–20× more durable and won't peel under hot tires. Compared to tile, epoxy wins on seamlessness (no grout lines to trap bacteria or oils), impact resistance, and cost per square foot for large areas like warehouses and garages. Tile beats epoxy in kitchens where you want individual piece replaceability.
Do you offer financing or payment plans?
We don't offer in-house financing, but most projects can be invoiced in two stages - a deposit at scheduling and balance on completion. For large commercial projects, we can discuss milestone-based payment structures. Call us to talk through options.

Installation

How long does epoxy floor installation take?
A standard two-car garage takes one day - diamond grind, moisture test, primer, base coat with flake broadcast, and polyaspartic topcoat. You're back on the floor lightly the next morning, full vehicle traffic in 24–48 hours. Large commercial floors can take 2–5 days depending on square footage and system complexity.
Can epoxy be installed over existing tile or coatings?
Over tile, sometimes - but we typically recommend removal. Grout lines create texture telegraphing and adhesion risk. Over old epoxy or paint, we grind it off first; a coating is only as good as what it bonds to. We'll assess the existing surface during the quote visit and give you an honest recommendation.
How soon can I use my floor after installation?
Light foot traffic in 6–8 hours. Normal use (moving furniture, rolling tool carts) in 24 hours. Vehicle traffic in 48–72 hours. Full chemical resistance develops over 7 days. With polyaspartic topcoat - which we use on most jobs - these timelines are at the fast end of the range.
What preparation do you do before installing epoxy?
Diamond grinding (not acid etching - grinding gives mechanical profile, not chemical) to open the concrete pores, moisture vapor testing, crack and spall repair, and a thorough vacuum and tack-wipe. The prep is 40–50% of the job. Any contractor who skips grinding or skips the moisture test is setting you up for a delamination claim in 12–18 months.
Can epoxy be installed in Tennessee summer heat?
Yes, with scheduling adjustments. We work early mornings in summer months to avoid peak slab temperatures. Above 90°F substrate temperature, resin cure accelerates unpredictably and pot life shrinks. We use heat-rated formulations and adjust our mix ratios seasonally. We don't cancel summer jobs - we schedule them smarter.

Durability & Maintenance

How long does epoxy flooring last in Nashville's heat?
A properly installed 100% solids epoxy with polyaspartic topcoat lasts 15–20 years in Nashville residential use with basic maintenance. Commercial floors see 8–12 years before they need a topcoat refresh. The main enemy in Tennessee is UV - which is why we always specify UV-stable polyaspartic or polyurea topcoats, never bare epoxy as the final surface.
Will epoxy yellow or fade in Tennessee sun?
Standard epoxy will yellow in direct UV - sometimes within months in Nashville. This is why we don't use bare epoxy as a topcoat on any job. Our standard system puts a UV-stable polyaspartic or polyurea clear coat over the epoxy base. That topcoat is what you see; it won't yellow for years under Tennessee conditions.
How do I clean and maintain an epoxy floor?
Sweep or blow off debris, mop with a pH-neutral cleaner and warm water. Avoid bleach (weakens the topcoat over time) and acidic cleaners. For garage floors, clean up oil spills promptly - not because they'll stain immediately, but to prevent slip hazards. A light auto-scrub once a year keeps commercial floors looking new.
Can epoxy floors be repaired if they chip or crack?
Yes. Chips and delaminated patches can be ground out, spot-primed, and recoated. The repair is visible up close if the original floor has aged color, but functional. Cracks in the concrete that move (structural cracks) will re-telegraph through the coating - those need to be addressed as a concrete repair, not just a coating repair. We assess this during the quote.
Is epoxy slippery when wet?
A smooth epoxy finish is slippery when wet - comparable to polished concrete. That's why we broadcast aluminum oxide anti-slip aggregate into the topcoat on all garage floors, commercial kitchens, and anywhere wet-floor conditions are likely. The broadcast adds grip without compromising the finish. If you have an existing smooth floor that's a slip risk, we can add a grip topcoat as a standalone service.

Products & Types

What's the difference between epoxy and polyaspartic?
Epoxy is the base coat - it bonds to concrete, provides build and color. Polyaspartic is a topcoat - UV-stable, fast-curing, hard, chemical-resistant. Most quality floor systems use both: epoxy base for adhesion and build, polyaspartic top for durability and UV protection. "Polyaspartic floor" usually means a full system with a polyaspartic topcoat, not a polyaspartic-only install.
What's the difference between epoxy and polyurea?
Polyurea cures faster than epoxy (sometimes in minutes) and is more flexible, making it useful for crack bridging and fast-turnaround commercial jobs. It's also more expensive. Polyurea-only systems are marketed as "one-day" installs - they can work, but thin polyurea without a proper epoxy base is a common source of delamination failures. We use polyurea where it makes engineering sense, not as a marketing pitch.
What epoxy colors and finishes are available?
For flake systems, we stock 40+ chip blends - neutrals (Slate, Gunmetal, Oyster, Silver) are most popular in Nashville's craftsman-and-brick aesthetic. Solid colors, metallic epoxy (copper, gunmetal, marble-look), and two-tone combinations are also available. We bring physical sample boards to every assessment - you make the color decision under your actual lighting, not from a screen.
Is epoxy flooring safe for food-prep areas?
Yes, with the right system. We specify NSF-certified, seamless urethane cement or epoxy systems for commercial kitchen floors, food processing, and brewery production areas. These are non-porous, chemical-resistant, and can handle thermal shock from steam cleaning. Standard decorative epoxy is not food-safe certified - the system selection matters.
What type of epoxy works best for Nashville garages?
Our standard Nashville garage system: 100% solids epoxy base coat, full-broadcast decorative chip, and UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat. The polyaspartic is non-negotiable in Tennessee - bare epoxy topcoats yellow in Nashville UV within a season. For car enthusiasts with heated or air-conditioned garages, metallic epoxy with a gloss polyaspartic top is a popular upgrade. For working garages with heavy equipment, we add aluminum oxide anti-slip to the topcoat.
